How to understand the test result

Once the basis of the test has been prepared , how do we understand the outcome , and therefore determine whether our freezer is working adequately or not? The test can end in 3 ways . Reopening the freezer after the desired period of time, we may find the coin suspended and frozen inside the ice. If this happens, it means the freezer stopped working for a while, causing the water to melt and causing the coin to sink . But then it started working again, because the water in which the coin sank froze again.

The second possible outcome of the test sees the coin completely sunk into the glass or container. If this is the result we find when opening the freezer, this means that the freezer probably stopped working for a long time , causing the coin to reach the bottom of the container.

Finally, by opening the freezer we could find ourselves faced with a third scenario : the coin is on the surface of the ice , where we left it. In this case, there is no need to worry: our freezer works properly.
Other applications of the penny test

The coin test is useful in daily life to verify the actual presence of any faults in the freezer, before calling a technician. In addition to this, however, this test can be useful when you are not at home for a certain period, for example when you go on holiday . Leaving a coin in the freezer with the procedure we have described will allow you to check if there have been any malfunctions or power outages in our absence. Knowing this is also useful because the conservation of food placed in the freezer would be compromised if the appliance were to turn off, and we would risk consuming spoiled food upon our return .
