Home remedies for ear infections (otitis)

The ears are one of the most sensitive parts of the body, and their cleanliness should be one of our priorities. Our ear canals produce earwax to protect the ears from dust, foreign particles and microorganisms, and themselves from water irritation.

The excess cerumen naturally leaves the ear canal by opening the ear, but sometimes the excessive production of earwax in the hearing canals can block the ear or even lead to hearing loss.

The following are symptoms of earwax build-up:

– Ear pain
– Sudden or partial hearing loss
– Tinnitus, wheezing or ringing in the ear
– A feeling of fullness in the ear
If the accumulation of ear wax is not eliminated in time, it may lead to an infection, which is often characterised by:

- fever
– severe pain in the ear
– dizziness
– pain in the ear that does not falters
– an earflow
– cough
– persistent hearing loss
– an odour from the ear
Yet researchers have discovered that using cotton swabs as a way to clean the ears and eliminate keye build-up can do more harm than good.
