Drinking plenty of fluids also helps blood flow more easily through the body. At the same time, it helps to drain the tissues – although this may seem contradictory at first. The ideal is to drink mineral water and herbal teas. It is best to avoid alcohol. Especially in hot weather, it risks causing circulatory problems.

Tip 6: eat light
Refrain from heavy, high-calorie meals, as this unnecessarily overloads the body in heat – and therefore also the legs and feet. The ideal in high temperatures is to eat light whole foods with lots of fruits and vegetables.

Tip 7: Comfortable shoes – or no shoes at all
Flat, comfortable shoes relieve leg veins in hot weather – unlike high-heeled shoes. René Graber also advises taking off your shoes more often during the day and walking barefoot. You can start the day by walking barefoot in the morning, when there is still dew on the lawn in the garden. “Then simply remove the dew and let the feet dry naturally,” says Graber.

If nothing works, compression stockings can be a good remedy – even if they are not necessarily comfortable. In fact, the stockings exert pressure on the veins and thus help to move blood from the legs towards the heart. “But compression stockings should really only be a last resort in case of heat,” says Leila Bruno.
