Polish and clean matte wood with simple natural remedies: my grandmother’s method
Let’s start with the ultimate polish: olive oil. If you have only used it in the kitchen so far, don’t miss the opportunity to also try it as a detergent and rinse aid. For old and dull furniture, its properties prove unrivaled. Soak a cotton ball with a drop of oil and wipe it on the compromised areas. Let it sit and wipe it with a clean woolen cloth.
To stay on the culinary theme, don’t neglect the benefits of apple cider vinegar, perfect for maintaining wood. Dampen a microfiber cloth and wring it well to remove excess water, then add a few drops of vinegar, then rub it onto the wood in circular motions. Rinse and let dry.
And of course lemon juice could not be missing, which combines cleaning and polishing power with an intoxicating scent. Squeeze a medium-sized citrus fruit, filter the juice and pour it onto a soft sponge, then pass it over the cupboard and enjoy the result.
Now let’s come to a very powerful mixture based on baking soda and Marseille soap. It only takes 2 tablespoons of each of these two ingredients dissolved in 500 ml of water to obtain a very effective solution. You will return the wood to new condition. Pour a few drops of this mixture onto a cloth and wipe it on the cabinet! Result? A very clean and shiny surface!
And finally, here is the polishing treatment that my grandmother used, her antique furniture was the envy of the neighborhood.
You will need:
- 1 soft bristle brush
- 2 tablespoons of vinegar
- 1 C. tablespoon of olive oil
Pour the oil and vinegar into a small bowl, dip the brush in it and pass it over the entire surface. Leave it on for about two hours, so that the wood better absorbs the nutrients and polishing principles of the solution, then wipe with a woolen cloth. You will be enchanted by the beauty of your furniture!
