Geckos are small, fascinating reptiles that can inspire both wonder and fear. Their agility and ability to disguise themselves make them fascinating creatures. Very often, we can spot them in houses and apartments, where they seek refuge and hunt for prey. However, there is much more to know about their presence in the house and the habits that lead them to share it with us but, above all, to prevent them from becoming our roommates.

Geckos, belonging to the Gekkonidae family, are found in many parts of the world. Their ability to stick to vertical surfaces and climb ceilings is made possible by the small adhesive bristles on their legs. This feature makes them incredibly agile and able to move between the walls and furniture of the house with extreme ease. The main reason geckos choose our homes as shelter is to search for food .

Being insect predators, they find the home environment an ideal place to hunt flies, mosquitoes and other annoying nocturnal insects. Artificial lights outside windows attract them , and the presence of insects makes staying indoors even more tempting. Furthermore, if the house is not properly cleaned they may find dirt and food crumbs to feed on .

When we are faced with these unexpected visitors, the natural reaction may be to chase them away or even eliminate them. However, it is important to consider that geckos play a valuable role in the home ecosystem . They help reduce the presence of unwanted insects, helping to maintain a natural balance.
