Maintaining a clean and fresh-smelling kitchen sink drain doesn’t have to involve harsh chemicals. With a few common household items—water, salt, dishwashing liquid, and vinegar—you can create an effective solution to keep your drain running smoothly and smelling fresh. Here’s how you can do it with this easy and eco-friendly method.
Ingredients:
Hot Water: Helps dissolve and flush away residue.
Salt: Acts as a gentle abrasive to scrub the inside of the drain.
Dishwashing Liquid: Cuts through grease and food particles.
Vinegar: Natural disinfectant that eliminates odors and breaks down buildups.
Instructions:
Boil Water: Start by boiling about 2 liters of water. Hot water will help loosen any greasy residue in the drain.
Pour Dishwashing Liquid: Squirt a generous amount of dishwashing liquid directly into the drain. This will serve as the grease-fighting agent.
Add Salt: Sprinkle about 1/2 cup of salt down the drain. The coarse texture of the salt helps scour any residual particles clinging to the pipes.
Follow with Hot Water: Carefully pour the boiling water down the drain. The combination of hot water and dishwashing liquid will work together to break up greasy residues.
