Ingredients:
1 large onion (preferably red onion, as it has higher sulfur content)
1/2 cup of coconut oil (or any carrier oil like olive oil or castor oil)
A few drops of essential oil (optional, for fragrance)
How to Make Onion Hair Oil:
Step 1: Extract Onion Juice
Peel and Chop the Onion
Peel one large onion and chop it into small pieces.
Blend or Grate the Onion
Blend the chopped onion in a blender or grate it using a grater. You’ll want to extract as much juice as possible.
Strain the Juice
Place the blended or grated onion in a muslin cloth or fine sieve and squeeze out the juice into a bowl. The onion juice will be the base for your hair oil.
Step 2: Prepare the Oil
Heat the Oil
In a small pan, heat 1/2 cup of coconut oil (or any preferred carrier oil) on low heat. Coconut oil is highly nourishing and penetrates the hair shaft effectively, making it an excellent base.
Add the Onion Juice
Once the oil is warm, add the extracted onion juice to the pan. Stir the mixture gently and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes on low heat. This allows the nutrients from the onion juice to blend into the oil.
Cool and Strain the Oil
After simmering, remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool. Strain the oil using a fine mesh strainer to remove any onion pulp or residue. This will leave you with a smooth, nutrient-rich onion hair oil.
