In my book, no Halloween bash is complete without a proper (and spooky!) cocktail. One of my go-to Halloween recipes? This easy and reliable Witches’ Brew Lemonade. Inspired by the Sanderson Sisters from the cult classic Hocus Pocus, this drink captures the eerie glow of their cauldron. By layering sparkling lemonade with Blue Curaçao and purple gin, you create a chilling effect that’s just as refreshing and delicious as it is visually stunning. Best of all, you only need three ingredients—and no, you won’t need to procure any eye of newt or toe of frog!
To achieve that signature color, don’t skip using Empress 1908 Indigo Gin and Blue Curaçao; the look won’t be the same without them. The Empress 1908 Indigo Gin, which gets its hue from butterfly pea flower, changes colors when lemonade is added, transforming from a deep purple to a bright lilac. The Blue Curaçao sinks to the bottom of the lemonade, resulting in a jaw-dropping layered drink.
How to Make Witches’ Brew Lemonade
Ingredients
- Sparkling Lemonade: Store-bought sparkling lemonade works well, but you can make your own for an extra touch, as in our spiked sparkling basil lemonade.
- Blue Curaçao: This tangy orange liqueur, often found in drinks like the Blue Hawaiian, is key to achieving that bewitchingly blue layer. If you prefer a simpler spiked lemonade, feel free to skip it.
- Empress 1908 Indigo Gin: Known for its rich botanical flavor, this gin features butterfly pea flower extract for its vibrant hue.
