  • Instructions

    1. Preheat the Oven

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    2. Make the Base

    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
    • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

    3. Spread the Base

    • Press about two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. It should form an even layer.

    4. Add the Filling

    • Sprinkle the chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts (if using) evenly over the pressed dough.
    • Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top, spreading it gently with a spatula.

    5. Top with Remaining Dough

    • Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the filling. It doesn’t need to cover completely; some gaps are fine.

    6. Bake

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the filling is bubbly.

    7. Cool and Serve

    • Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares. They will firm up as they cool.
    • Enjoy your ooey gooey bars warm or at room temperature!

    Tips

    • Storage: Keep bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
    • Variations: You can customize the filling by adding dried fruit, different types of chocolate, or flavored extracts.

These ooey gooey bars are sure to be a hit with family and friends! Enjoy!
