It doesn’t matter if your washing machine is front-loading or from the top, if it’s also a dryer or if you have the latest model: there are mistakes that are frequent and that you’re probably making too.
In this article we list the 10 most frequent errors we make when doing the laundry.
These errors can give us tremendous results: a less clean than expected, smelly, crumbling or even ruined forever. In addition to listing mistakes, we also suggest tricks to prevent and avoid them.
1. Do not divide the laundry
It can happen, for lack of time or ignorance, to put in the washing machine a collection of different fabrics. A widespread practice that ruins and ages our favorite clothes. Lanust and balls of fabric are only the very first and most obvious signs that you are not dividing the laundry.
In addition to dividing the laundry according to fabrics and colors, it also remembers to read the labels and follow the instructions to the letter.
2. Do not treat stains before washing clothes
It can happen to stain the laundry with products that are difficult to remove. A clear example is the fat stains. This type of stain should be pre-treated before washing the laundry in the washing machine.
Among the most difficult spots to remove are those of sweat, which form on the white laundry and become practically permanent. To remove these pre-neat spots with baking soda and vinegar.
3. Overload the washing machine
It happens more often than you can imagine. On the one hand, it is believed that the more you fill the washing machine, the more water and running you will be saved. Washing machines are classified according to the maximum weight they bear for each wash cycle. Read the instructions and stick to them.
4. Putting a wrong amount of detergent
You may have found remains of detergent in the clothes after doing the laundry: a signal that you used too much. Do not overdo it with the amount of detergent: putting too much of them can even have the opposite effect.
5. Exaggerating with bleach
A bleach is a useful product, but toxic and capable of ruining our laundry forever. The bleach should be used only with white laundry, and a very small amount is enough to get the desired results.
If possible, soak the laundry in a bucket full of water and a small amount of bleach before doing a washing cycle.
6. Mix the understom with the rest of the laundry
The underwear must be washed separately to prevent socks, bras or other garments from being lost forever.
7. Do not clean the washing machine
Bad smell, excess moisture and mold accumulate in a dirty washing machine. It is important to clean the washing machine at least once a month, thoroughly cleaning the filters, seals and detergent drawer.
