Chagas disease

Spiders, beetles, ants and other arachnids or insects disgust many people. We could add to the list larger animals, such as snakes or mice. The mere fact of imagining them close to them, in their sleeve or worse, in their bed, makes them crazy or sick. A real phobia, not always justified, which can ruin life. That said, among these little creatures, there are some that are really dangerous and can cause death by their bites or stings. This is particularly the case of the Triatominae, also known as the Kissing Bug.

This is a type of bug that feeds on blood and can transmit Chagas disease, a fatal condition if not treated in time. This insect is mainly found in Latin America and the southern United States, usually in hot and tropical areas. Despite the high temperatures, it is advisable to wear long sleeves. At night, a mosquito net is recommended, as is closing the windows and using air conditioning. Your electricity bills will increase, but you may also save yourself.

Symptoms
Chagas disease, when it is not fatal, requires lifelong treatment, whether for men, women, children or animals (most often, cats and dogs). It is characterized by progressive shortness of breath and in many cases, an enlarged heart. People with this disease must then be regularly monitored by a doctor. For animals, it is sometimes more complex because veterinarians do not always have the means and knowledge of the care to be carried out on them. Owners often decide, if the suffering is recognized, to have the animal put down.

With the current news in France concerning bedbugs that worry the population, the little creatures take up a lot of space in the media and on social networks. In any case, in the event of a bite or sting from an insect or other creature that you do not know, you should not waste time or play the superhero. You must quickly go to the emergency services of the place where you are, trying (easier said than done) to describe to the doctor as best you can the beast that stung or bit you.
