My Late Mom Left $5 Million Inheritance To My Greedy Brother And Aunts, But I Only Got An Envelope With An Address
Family disputes over a loved one’s belongings are common, and sometimes, the people who should be receiving the inheritance don’t even agree. One woman shared a story about her mother and the unexpected gift she left behind when she passed.
She began by explaining that she was the one who cared for her mother during her illness. “Mom was always my best friend,” she wrote. “So, of course, I was going to be there for her through everything.”
But because she was always by her mother’s side, her selfish brother and aunts only showed up when they needed something—usually money to pay their bills.
“While Mom was steadily getting worse, one of my aunts had the nerve to ask my mom’s real estate contacts to help her find a new home, since Mom had run a real estate business. They were so cheeky,” the woman recalled.
Sadly, her mother passed away.
The woman then reflected on the day her mother’s will was read. In the room, which felt like something out of a Hallmark movie, her brother, aunts, and the family lawyer were all present.
“As the lawyer revealed the contents of the will, I sipped weak tea from one of the broken teacups. Mom had saved up quite a bit of money—around $5 million—and she planned to give it to my brother and aunts. I nearly choked on my tea as I tried to process what was happening. I didn’t get anything. Not a thing.”
Tears welled up in her eyes, and mascara smudged her skirt as her brother and aunts couldn’t hide their grins.
“I couldn’t understand how Mom could hurt me like this,” she thought as she wiped her nose with the palm of her hand. As an overthinker, she kept asking herself, “Did I not care enough for her in her final months?”
