So where do the microplastics of water end up?
According to the study, the missing microplastics moved from water to sediments. By coprecipitating with microplastics, calcium carbonate in sediment can extract them from water.
Finally, according to water quality and consumption practices around the world, the study examined the amount of microplastics ingested by adults and children in tap water and boiling water in 67 regions on six continents. They found that the amount of microplastics ingested with tap water was two to five times greater than the amount absorbed by boiling water.
