The yellow dots: the lightening point
The yellow spot indicates the lightest part of the tyre. Ideally placed next to the valve, where the weight is slightly higher, this yellow point allows technicians to counterbalance the weight of the tire with that of the valve. This adjustment optimises the weight distribution on the wheel and reduces the risk of vibration while driving. However, when a tyre has both a red dot and a yellow dot, priority is given to the red dot to ensure optimal balancing.
The mysterious white dot: a rarer marking
Some brands also add a blank point, but its role is more difficult to define. Its use varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and it does not matter as red and yellow dots. In general, it indicates a particularity of the tyre structure without significantly affecting the balancing. These markings, although optional, show the willingness of some manufacturers to ensure production of high-quality tyres, with precise specifications for each model.
