5 Natural Solutions to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
The steamer: a formidable enemy
Bed bugs do not withstand high temperatures. A steam cleaner at 120 C can effectively remove them. Pass the steam over the mattresses, curtains, carpets and all the nooks or crannies where they might be hiding.
Tip: Insist on the seams of the mattresses and the cracks in the furniture.
Diatomaceous soil: a natural insecticide
This natural powder, composed of abrasive microparticles, destroys the shell of the bugs, desiccants them in a few hours. Sprinkle them under the beds, along the plinths and in the suspect places.
Caution: Use food diatom soil to avoid respiratory risks.
Garlic and essential oils in repellents
The strong smell of garlic and certain essential oils (lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus) disturbs bugs and disrupts their orientation.
Recipe for an anti-bug spray:
- Mix 25 ml of lavender essential oil, 50 ml tea tree oil and 1 litre of water.
- Spray on the laundry, mattresses and suspicious nooks.
High-temperature washing
Wash your sheets, clothes and curtains at least 60 degrees Celsius to kill eggs and larvae. If possible, switch them to the hot dryer.
Good to know: Place the infested objects in a sealed plastic bag and put them in the freezer for 48 hours to kill the bugs by the cold.
Seal all the hiding places
Bugs love fissures and interstices. Plug the holes into the walls, repair the baseboards and attach anti-pushed covers to your mattresses.
Preventing a new infestation
- Draw up sensitive areas regularly (mattress, sofa, carpet).
- Do not bring back used furniture without having carefully inspected it.
- Check your luggage after a stay at the hotel or a trip by train/bus.
- Use anti-bug covers to protect your mattresses and pillows.
Thanks to these natural methods, you will be able to permanently eliminate bed bugs and find a healthy interior, without toxic products.
