Use of castor oil for lips and eyelashes
Lip care
Castor oil is often used in lipsticks and gloss due to its moisturizing properties. For dry lips, it is recommended to apply pure castor oil or mix it with coconut oil to improve the taste and enjoy its moisturizing benefits under dry conditions, such as skiing or an airplane.
Growth of the eyelashes and eyebrows
Although there is no tangible scientific evidence that castor oil grows eyelashes and eyebrows, many anecdotal testimonies support its effectiveness. The main component of the oil, ricinoleic acid, could help inhibit PGD2 (prostaglandin D2), a substance involved in hair loss, thus promoting growth.
To apply castor oil to the eyelashes and eyebrows:
Make sure it is pure.
Perform a skin test to check for no allergic reaction.
Apply it before going to bed, after cleaning your eyelashes.
Use a thin applicator, such as a clean brush of an empty mascara, to avoid putting it in the eye.
Rinse the oil in the morning with water or a mild make-up remover.
Precautions and potential side effects
Although castor oil is generally safe, precautions are needed. Avoid putting it directly in the eyes to prevent corneal irritation. Keep it in control of light and use products without additives or chemicals.
