How long after the expiry date can you consume a yogurt?

Since yoghurts are fermented products containing probiotics, they are generally labelled with a DDM and can be consumed for several days or even weeks after the date indicated, under certain conditions.

How long can you eat an out-of-date yogurt?

The duration of consumption after the DDM depends on the type of yogurt and its storage conditions:

  • Up to 2 weeks after the date: If the yogurt is properly stored in a refrigerator at a maximum of 4oC, it usually remains consumable without problems.
  • Up to 1 month after the date: Some unopened plain yogurts, rich in lactic ferments, may still be good.
  • Beyond a month: The risk of tampering becomes higher, better to be vigilant.

However, the date alone is not enough. Before eating expired yogurt, some signs of deterioration should always be checked.
