How to remove a key that broke in the lock: 5 tips to avoid disassembling everything

1. Scissor solution
Procedure: If the key is stuck with the door unlocked, find a pair of thin-tipped scissors. On the opposite side (for example, inside the house) slide the tip of a scissors until it comes into contact with the broken key. Push gently to push the key outwards. If it does not go out completely, use clamps to remove it.
2. The key to rescue
Procedure: This technique is parallel to the previous one, but using another key. By inserting this key into the lock from the opposite side, it will push the broken key outwards.
3. 3. The Silicone Savior
Popularity: This method has drawn attention to social media for its effectiveness.
Procedure: The broken key shall be vertical. Lightly heat a piece of silicone with a lighter to melt it. Promptly press the molten silicone against the lock, covering the insulated key. Hold firmly for one minute until the silicone solidifies. Gently pull the silicone; the key should follow. Be gentle to avoid breaking the silicone.
Although these strategies may work in many scenarios, never forget that if you are not sure or if the key remains stubbornly stuck, consulting a locksmith is the safest way to make sure that no additional damage is caused.
