At first glance, the programme for the rapid washing of washing machines and dishwashers may seem environmentally friendly. However, in many cases it is preferable not to do so.
When you see the title “Quick Washing Program,” you might think it would be more environmentally friendly than a regular washing program because of its short duration – just like a quick shower. However, this is misleading: with short operating times, energy consumption generally increases. The detergent cannot work effectively in this short period of time, so the washing machine needs to heat the water very quickly. Water consumption is also often higher.
This means that the rapid rinsing programmes, both for the washing machine and for the dishwasher, are generally not inexpensive:
- They use more water
- They consume more electricity
As a result, they are costly and harmful to the environment.
ExceptionException: If your washing machine or dishwasher has a quick warm program, it is cheaper than the longer program. However, it cleans only slightly dirty clothes or dishes.
If you choose an economic or environmentally friendly programme, you will be much more economical and environmentally friendly. This is because more operation requires less electricity and lower temperatures. The washing programme can play its part fully.
