This amazing plant grows everywhere and is known as white mulberry. There is evidence that this specific plant fights tumours, diabetes and high blood pressure among many other health benefits.

The white mulberry tree is native to China. It was introduced to the United States in colonial times, in an attempt to establish a silk industry.

Many plants that grow in these places are not as well known for their curative properties, simply because they are mainly used for other industrial purposes. This is the case with white mulberry. This tree is used for its wood, and the fruit is used to feed silkworms, but its berries are very healthy and useful for many serious diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and even tumors.

The wood of this tree is very flexible and robust and has been used to make tennis rackets, hockey sticks, furniture and boats.

The white mulberry tree has been studied for its health benefits, especially in the treatment of diabetes, thanks to the hypoglycaemic properties of its leaves, often consumed as herbal teas or extract. It is also used to reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure. Its leaves and fruits contain beneficial antioxidants against premature aging. In addition, this plant is traditionally used to relieve the cold and its symptoms, as well as muscle and joint pain, such as arthritis. It is also attributed to effects against constipation, dizziness, ringing of the ears and hair loss.

How does it work?

The most important compounds found in white mulberry work in a similar way to some medicines used for type 2 diabetes. They slow down the breakdown of sugars in the gut and allow them to be absorbed more slowly into the blood. This helps the body to keep blood sugar levels at acceptable levels.

The white mulberry tree contains organic acids, a lot of vitamin C, carotene, pectin, fiber, invert sugar, resin, etc. These active compounds help in cases of tonsillitis, for the treatment of cough, fever, diarrhoea, headaches and inflammation.
