Why is a metal terminal needed?
To ensure your safety, it has three main functions:
Protection against electric shocks
If the device has a defect (e.g. an exposed wire touching the metal housing), the metal clip allows the current to flow to the ground rather than passing through your body when you touch it.
Prevention of short circuits and fires Defect
grounding can cause overheating, damage to equipment or even fire.
Reduction of electrical interference
It makes it possible to stabilize the electric current, in particular interference which can interfere with the proper operation of sensitive devices (computers, televisions, etc.).
Legal obligation for facilities
Grounding is a requirement imposed by electrical regulations. In France, the NF C 15-100 standard stipulates that all dwellings must be equipped with a grounding for maximum safety.
