Turn off the light by coming out of a room

Switching off the light when you come out of a room is a gesture that seems obvious, but you tend to forget it sometimes. If you have difficulty adopting this reflex, you can install a presence detector that will turn off the light for you when you leave a room.

If you have compact fluorescent ampoules, it is recommended that you turn them off if you are going to be absent for more than 15 minutes. But if the duration of your absence is shorter, you can keep them on to avoid grilling them. Indeed, the lifetime of these ampoules depends on the number of times they are switched on and off.

Choosing the right type of ampoule

The choice of the ampoule is not to be overlooked. It is your type of bulb that will help you save electricity, or instead make the light up your electricity bill.

Before buying your ampoule, check its label. This includes information on its energy consumption. Choose the bulb that has A and means that your lighting will be more economical. Moreover, there are light bulbs that consume the least energy, LEDs and compact fluorescent bulbs.

– LEDs

Although expensive to buy, LED bulbs are the ones that consume the least energy and last the longest, compared to the others. Indeed, they consume 6 times less than halogen bulbs and 10 times less than incandescents, as explained on the Capital site.

– The compact fluorescent lamp

Also known as a low-energy light bulb, the CFL is also recommended for savings on electricity. It also provides good lighting to your interior. Indeed, it has the advantage of converting 80% of the energy into light and therefore only 20% is converted into heat, as explained on the EDF site.

– The halogen lamp

So if you want to save on your lighting, avoid this type of energy-consuming bulb. Moreover, the European Commission had banned the marketing of halogen light bulbs in September 2018, out of economic and ecological concern.

– Incandescent light bulbs

These light bulbs have the shortest lifespan, but in addition to these they are energy-intensive and do not provide good lighting. Indeed, they convert only 5% to 8% of their electricity consumption into light. The rest is transformed into heat, according to FUTURA PLANETE.

Maintain the ampoules

Remove dust from your light bulbs and lampshades to rekindle their lighting, and instead choose clear lampshades that will accentuate the brightness of the light bulbs.
