7. Sterilize the gardening floor. Gardeners sometimes wish to sterilize the soil to eliminate diseases, weed seeds and pests. Try to microwave two pounds of wet earth in a microwave-like ventilated container for 90 seconds to two and a half minutes, depending on the power.
8. Prepare a hot compress or a heating pad. A towel or a damp cloth in the microwave for one minute makes it possible to make a rapid compress. A knotted tubular sock filled with raw rice is a reusable heating pad. After being microwave warmed (perhaps with a little lavender oil), it has the perfect shape to soothe any sore muscle.
9. Remove the chewing gum. Heat vinegar in the microwave for one minute, then apply it to the chewing gum to remove it quickly.
10. Make the pungent of the onions disappear. Don’t cry. Simply cut the ends of the onion and microwave it for 30 seconds. This will allow you to chop the rest of the vegetable without shed a tear.
11. Disinfect the sponges. The sponges are free of germs after 60 seconds in the microwave; it is enough to saturate them first with water. (The addition of some dishwashing liquid or lemon juice is optional.) Good Housekeeping scientists found that this method killed 99.9% of domestic germs.
Finally, a comment on the safety of microwave ovens compared with conventional furnaces. It is important to know that the microwaves cannot pass through the metal cage of the apparatus or the specially treated glass from the door, so there should be no leakage of radiation from a clean and unmodified furnace. As an additional precautionary measure, the US Food and Drug Administration advises people to move away from their device when it is turned on.
Microwaves are much more than just practical tools for warming food. Why not harness their energy-efficient power to help you with other household tasks?
