Very easy to recognize, unlike the American cockroach, the German cockroach searches inside buildings to install its nest, especially in areas near the pantry for easier access to food. How do you recognize this species? It is a very small cockroach that does not exceed one and a half centimetres (even in adult specimens). Its colour varies between pale brown and dark yellow. You'll notice that it has wings, but it's not a flight-charted species. The big drawback: its reproduction is dizzying, it can lay up to 160 eggs per year. How to track it? It often installs its nest in cracks, near electric device motors or in false ceilings. And this cockrod prefers to eat sugar, fat or decaying food, that's why it's constantly lurking near garbage cans.

– Eastern shell
It is a type of large cockroach, almost black, up to 2.5 centimetres in length in adult specimens. It is not called a flying cockroach, although males have wings and often enter buildings through pipes or cracks. A very distinctive feature? Compared to others, the Eastern cockrocon gives off a strong and very unpleasant odor because of the bacteria that live in its body and that, it must be known, can be transmitted to humans or pets. Where can we find it? It hides in the basements, the wet and dark places, although it tends to install its nest outside in hedges or tree trunks.
– Blatte with brown stripes
Among the types of small cockroaches, there is also the brown-banded cockroach (Supella Longipalpa) which has quite surprising habits and characteristics. First, it lives only inside and its reproductive capacity is very slow, which is why it is much less frequent than other species. This cockrod measures approximately 1.5 cm and lays a maximum of 16 eggs per reproductive period. On the morphology side, it is light brown with a series of bands in yellowish tones on its back. To grow and reproduce, it needs heat. And, although he's scaring the water, he's used to settling in the kitchen. That said, this cockroa clearly prefers to feed on paper, books, curtain fabrics and other similar objects.

What attracts cockroaches to the house?

Here are the sources of attraction to take into account in order to make them more secure:

"So though, it's not a mystery, you already know that most cockroaches are constantly looking for food to survive." And, of course, that is not what is lacking in you. Worse still, even the waste or small crumbs serves as feast for these insects. So, it should come as no surprise if they continue to prowl around. The best thing to do is to carefully seal all your food in the pantry, frequently empty the trash can and suck all crumbs on the floors, tables, and counters. Focus on hermetically sealed containers to protect your food.
Note: Strangely, cockroaches also eat unexpected substances such as hair, soap and toothpaste. So, there's no secret, the best thing would be to meticulously clean your house with it to cut the grass under their feet.
– Water leaks
Water is another vital resource for cockroaches inside your home. So, if you have leaking pipes, areas where water builds up or drips (under the sinks or in the basements), this is the time to fix it. To chase cockroaches, think about phasing out leaks quickly. Replace the taps and repair all the corners where the outer water is likely to enter insidiously in your home, for example through the window or roof. A little advice: if your basement is wet, try using a dehumidifier or a sump pump.
