Spiders are returning to our homes: how do we stop them?

The return of spiders to our homes in the autumn is a recurring phenomenon, and for some, outright distressing. Imagine yourself in the middle of the evening, comfortably installed, when suddenly this long-legged creature appears, causing frantic screams and heartbeats. But why do these bugs choose this particular season to invade our homes? The answer is simple and almost... romantic.

reaching up to 6 cm in size is in search of love. If it is more visible in the autumn, it is because the males are going on an expedition to find a partner. Usually, these spiders hide in dark places such as caves, garages or attics, where they go unnoticed. But autumn, the season of love, pushes them to take risks and venture where they might come across humans, causing encounters that are often panicked. Fortunately, although they are not very aesthetic and impressive, the mating are totally harmless and will run away at the slightest threat.

Should we really fear spiders?

Despite their repugnant appearance, spiders such as spiders pose no danger to man. In fact, they are even useful: predators of mosquitoes and other unwanted insects, they play an important ecological role. That said, even if they only want our own, their mere presence can be difficult to bear. Fortunately, there are simple and respectful tricks to dissuade them from entering your home, without exterminating them.
