One morning, as you take your shower, you notice a strange pink tint around the siphon. You think of a simple benign mould and you don’t know it. Wrong idea. This colored deposit is actually a colony of bacteria, and they could cause much more inconvenience than you imagine.
A bacterium that loves moisture
Contrary to appearances, this substance is not a mold, but a bacterium called Serratia marcescens according to Dr Karan Raj in a video on Tiktok. It proliferates particularly in humid environments and loaded with soap or shampoo residues. This bacterium therefore finds in your bathroom an ideal environment for multiplying and forming a pink or reddish biofilm.
Its appearance may seem trivial, but it is not without consequences, especially for vulnerable people.
