Urine spots on a mattress can be troublesome, especially if not cleaned immediately. In addition to the visible marks, they can leave a persistent odour. Fortunately, there are effective ways to get rid of them quickly and without too much effort.
Prevention is the best solution. If you have children or people who are at night crashes, the use of an impermeable mattress protector is recommended. Some covers have a plastic layer between the tissues to prevent any liquid from entering. Absorbent sleepers placed between the mattress and the sheet can also help to limit damage.
If a urine stain forms in spite of everything, it is important to act quickly. Start by absorbing maximum moisture with absorbent paper or a dry cloth. It is preferable to buffer rather than rubbing to avoid extending the stain.
Ammonia is one of the most effective solutions. Pour a little over a damp cloth and rub the affected area. For more practicality, you can also use a spray and spray directly onto the spot before rubbing with a clean cloth soaked in water.
After cleaning, drying is an essential step. Allow the mattress to dry in the open air, ideally in the sun, or use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
