The Malva del Sapo, also known as Malva del Sapo, Malva del Congo and Yerba del Sapo, is a perennial plant belonging to the family of the lips, native to Europe.

Its hard and fibrous rhizome produces many thick, straight, square and hairy stems. As for the leaves, they are rough, rough on the top and soft as wool on the underside. At the axil of the leaves, opposite one another, grow a multitude of small white flowers, gathered in clusters; the flowers develop from April to the end of August. This plant has a characteristic odor very similar to that of an apple.

It can be multiplied by seeds in spring, cuttings or by root division. The flowering luminaries are harvested when in full bloom and spread on a fabric or paper in an aerated and shaded place. If necessary, they may be dried in an oven, but do not exceed 40 C.

Maroba has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times. The scientific name Marrubium comes from the Hebrew word for "bitter juice". Tralliano, a famous 6th-century physician and philosopher, has made intensive use of a decoction of leaves and seeds, or juice mixed with honey, to treat asthma and other lung diseases.
