Use white vinegar to neutralise odours
White vinegar is an excellent natural deodorant. Two methods can eliminate mouldy odours effectively:
- In the washing machine: add a cup of white vinegar to the softener compartment and start a normal washing cycle.
- In pre-wash: soak the towels in a pool of hot water with a cup of white vinegar for one hour before washing them in the machine.
Do not abuse laundry
Excessive laundry can leave residues on the towels, which promotes the proliferation of bacteria responsible for bad odours. It is preferable to use a moderate amount of detergent and avoid softener, which coats the fibres and reduces their absorption capacity.
Dry immediately after washing
Leaving the towels wet in the machine after washing promotes the formation of moulds. As soon as the cycle is completed, it is advisable to extend them immediately outdoors, preferably in a well-ventilated and sunny place.
Store towels in a dry place
Once clean and dry, the towels should be stowed in a dry, well-ventilated cupboard. To avoid moisture, it is possible to place a sachet of sodium bicarbonate or a small lavender bag in the cupboard.
Thanks to these simple and natural tricks, the towels regain their freshness and softness, without bad odors or aggressive chemicals. Regular maintenance guarantees their longevity and their daily comfort.
