Individuals and businesses who do not comply with these restrictions are liable to heavy fines: up to EUR 1 500 for filling a swimming pool or watering a garden, up to EUR 3 000 in the event of a repeat offence. The solution found by some to make up for water scarcity? Installation of rainwater collectors. However, there are also some prohibitions in this area.
The collection and storage of rainwater for its own use is possible in France under certain conditions. Please note that it may be used for domestic purposes, with the exception of food consumption. Inside, it can be used to flush toilets, wash the floors and wash laundry, provided that a suitable water treatment appliance is used.
