A particularly intense cold wave is currently affecting France, leading to difficult weather conditions in much of the territory. On Wednesday 15 January, Météo-France placed 15 departments in yellow vigilance due to snow and ice. The purpose of this alert is to alert people to the increased safety risks, including on roads and in exposed areas. With a significant drop in temperatures, the authorities are calling for caution and greater vigilance.
Departments affected by yellow vigilance
The departments under yellow alertness for snow and ice are mainly located in the East and Central France. Among them is Aube, Côte-d'Or, Marne and Haute-Marne, where negative temperatures combine with snow precipitation. In the East, departments such as Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, as well as Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin, are also on this list.
In the north-east, the Vosges and the Haute-Saône also face these difficult conditions. Further west, vigilance extends to the Seine-et-Marne, the Yvelines, the Yonne and the Essonne, which also suffer the effects of this severe cold.
These regions, although familiar with cold winters, experience more severe than normal conditions. The combination of snowfalls and temperatures often below zero significantly increases the risk of ice, making displacement particularly dangerous.
Vigilance that could change
Faced with this situation, Météo-France closely monitors the evolution of meteorological conditions. The continuous decline in temperatures throughout the country could lead to further snowfall or worsening of ice, especially in the already affected areas. Therefore, this yellow vigilance could be enhanced in the next few hours or days, depending on the updated forecast.
Local authorities stand ready to respond to deteriorating weather conditions. The salt and snow removal teams are already mobilized to ensure road safety, while communities are multiplying prevention messages for the population.
