This small fly measures about 5 mm. The insect attacks the vegetables by overflying the ground surface. Once the root is detected, it lands on it and goes along the vegetable to the ground, where it lays its eggs. Once the eggs are hatched, the maggots begin to dig tunnels along the roots, making their way to the end closest to the root. Vegetables infected with this fly become black because of the burrows that the larvae dig and the leaves turn yellow.
