The method that we want to reveal to you involves the use of a very common ingredient, borotal , that we all have at home.
Talcum powder acts as a repellent to scare away aphids, ants, pests and other insects. This substance contains boric acid , which is toxic to ants and drives them away immediately.
There is another boron-based substance: borax (or sodium tetraborate), but it is not recommended. With borax, a paste is prepared with water and sugar that is left in strategic places on the paths beaten by ants. The insects, attracted by the sugar, will pick up the paste and transport it to the anthill but, once ingested, they will die from the poison. As already said, it is preferable to scare away the ants than to eliminate them.
Repel ants with talcum powder: how to proceed
The procedure is simple: just sprinkle ordinary talcum powder around the stem of the plant. You can be sure that the ants will stay away.
Talcum powder can also be distributed by blowing it, spreading it near the plants as if it were a real insecticide. Ants, aphids and other pests will carefully avoid crossing the area treated with talcum powder: they will move away.
Certainly, at first the treated plants will have a slightly whitish appearance, but this effect will be short-lived.
Few people know the talcum powder method to protect plants from ants and pests: it is worth trying, as it effectively combats this annoying problem.
Is it possible to avoid aphid invasion?
Aphids are a problem that greatly bothers everyone who cares for gardens and orchards. Is it possible to prevent aphid attacks? Yes, it is possible with a special measure to scare them away.
The preventative tactic in question to combat these pests is called mulching . It consists of covering the ground with plastic sheets or straw to prevent insect attack.
However, if the temperature is very high, this system should be avoided because there is a risk of the plants wilting.
