Here's what you need to know about the expiry dates of foods

Chicken and chilled meat are stored for up to two days after the expiry date, and frozen meat can be stored much longer.

If the milk has retained a normal flavour and appearance, you can consume it up to one week after the expiry date.

Proper conditions, dry products such as rice and pasta are preserved for a long time.

Preserved food is perfectly acceptable until it is damaged. They keep for a long time.

The quality of deep-frozen foods may deteriorate over time, but they remain unalterable at -18oC (0oF).

Although many foods are still perfectly usable after their expiry date, obvious symptoms of rot include the presence of moulds, strong odors, strange textures or an atypical taste. Rather than relying on written dates, it is generally more reliable to rely on one's instincts.
