Driving is often synonymous with autonomy and freedom, especially for older people. However, with age, physical and cognitive abilities can diminish, raising a tricky question: when to consider driving? In France, there is no official age limit for driving, but the subject remains regularly debated.
Signs that warn
There may be indications that it is time to reflect on its conduct. Reduced responsiveness to contingencies, difficulty in finding oneself or frequent omissions can be detrimental to safety at the wheel. Alignment of cognitive functions, even mild, is also an important signal.

Regulation under discussion
A bill introduced in 2023 proposed regular medical check-ups for elderly drivers, but was left open. Currently, the responsibility for assessing the risks lies with the drivers themselves and their relatives.
