Cars are one of the biggest expenses for the majority of households. That is why every euro saved is a great help. Moreover, being more practical does not necessarily have to be expensive. From homemade deodorant to water bottle in the tire of your car, we have compiled some tricks to save you time and money inside and outside your vehicle.
Clean your headlights with toothpaste
If your headlights start to become opaque, don't change the light bulbs yet. The solution might be simpler than you think. Try to apply some toothpaste. Strange as it may seem, toothpaste abrasiveness helps to remove dust, dirt and oxidation.
Start by washing your headlights with a pane cleaner or any soap you have at your fingertips. Ideally use a microfiber cloth to remove as much dirt as possible. Dry the headlights, then stall the areas with car masking tape or painter’s ribbon to prevent the toothpaste from reaching the car’s paint. Finally, apply the toothpaste to the lighthouse, polish with your cloth and rinse with warm water. Here, your headlights should be shiny and clean.
Always park perfectly with a tennis ball
Parking in a garage can be complicated. No one is perfect and it happens to banging the wall or objects that are dragging on the ground. This is where a simple trick can save your garage and your car. Park your car first correctly, then hang a tennis ball from the ceiling. The important thing is that it falls almost vertically in front of the windshield. So when the car reaches the perfect position, the tennis ball will touch the window telling you that you are well aligned. No longer has to move gently into the garage, the tennis ball will serve as an automatic sensor at a lower cost.
Use a Mason jar as a car deodorant
If you don’t like the idea of constantly buying disposable plastic deodorants, you can make one yourself. With a Mason jar, pierce holes in the lid with a hammer and nail. Put some scented wax there and close the lid. You can buy normal candles and break them or buy scented wax in specialty stores. Place the jar in the cup holder of your car and the natural heat will melt the wax, diffusing a pleasant fragrance into the vehicle. It's simple, economical, and you can replace wax with different scents as often as you like.
Keeping your car clean with a box of cereals
As cars are small spaces, waste accumulates rapidly: receipts, shopping bags, crumbs and packaging invade the ground. A simple solution is to place a box of cereals on the passenger side of the car. Any fly or waste can go straight, making cleaning very easy. This method, sometimes referred to as “carbage”, refers to low-cost products available online specifically designed for this purpose. If you're serious about the cleanliness of your car, this trick is for you.
Use vinegar and bread in the rubbish bin
Waste not only accumulates in the car but also in the house. A malodorous trash is unpleasant, but this simple technique will make this moment much more enjoyable. Take an old piece of bread and let it soak in distilled vinegar overnight. In the morning, simply place the bread in the garbage can and the smell of vinegar will remove the bad odours from the trash can.
Use an elastic as a phone holder
We do not always have the time or the means to buy a phone holder in the car. However, having access to one's phone for directions is essential. With a simple elastic band, this problem is solved. Place the elastic on the top of the ventilation grille of the air conditioning, then pull half of it down and pass your phone through. If you have positioned it correctly, your phone will be in place, secured by the elastic band. This telephone support may not be the most aesthetic or ergonomic, but it is free.
