Campbell’s soup faces serious challenges

The company’s difficulties are compounded by a struggle for internal power. The Dorrance family, which owns 40% of Campbell’s shares, is in conflict with activist investor Daniel Loeb of Third Point, who owns about 7% of the shares. Loeb lobed for radical changes, including a change of brand name for the company and the modification of Campbell’s iconic red and white cans, resulting in legal disputes for alleged mismanagement.

Recently, Campbell agreed to appoint two directors appointed by Third Point, pointing to possible changes as the company struggles to survive.
