Portugal maintains its leading position thanks to its proximity to France, its pleasant climate and the presence of a large French-speaking community. Retirees also appreciate the quality of medical care and the ease of access through the many direct flights. However, the housing market has increased sharply in recent years.

Spain
Just behind, Spain is seducing its generous sunshine, its modern infrastructure, and an efficient health-care system. Geographical and cultural proximity to France facilitates the integration of expatriates. Nevertheless, in some major cities such as Madrid or Barcelona, the cost of living may be similar to that of France.
