US President Donald Trump once again sparked controversy by exonerating that the US “needs nothing from Canada,” after signing a new executive order authorizing increased exploitation of US forests.
The Order, signed on March 1, aims to reduce the dependence of the United States on Canadian timber, which currently accounts for almost 25% of its consumption according to LBM Journal.
By facilitating logging permit procedures and easing restrictions, the White House hopes to reduce construction costs, create jobs and reduce the risk of forest fires.
In his statement, Donald Trump firmly stated:
“We don’t need Canadian trees, we don’t need Canadian cars, we don’t need Canadian energy, or anything from Canada. ”
