The Places You Should Never Put an Air Fryer (And Why It Matters)

Where you place your air fryer can make all the difference in terms of safety and performance. Blocking its vents, keeping it near water, or setting it on a flammable surface can lead to overheating, damage, or even fire risks. From cramped cabinets to wobbly countertops, certain spots should be avoided to keep your kitchen safe and your air fryer running smoothly. A little placement know-how ensures crispy results without the hazards.

Got a new air fryer? Great! But before you set it up, be warned—where you place it can make or break your cooking experience. Air fryers need proper ventilation, a stable surface, and the right surroundings to work safely. Put it in the wrong spot, and you risk overheating, damaging your kitchen, or even starting a fire. Let’s go over the worst places to put an air fryer so you can keep your kitchen safe and your meals crispy.

1.Directly Against a Wall
Air fryers need space to breathe. They release hot air through vents, usually at the back or sides. If you push your air fryer against a wall, the heat has nowhere to go, leading to overheating and potential damage to both the fryer and your kitchen walls. Always leave at least 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) of space around your air fryer to prevent heat buildup.

2.Inside a Cupboard or Cabinet
Tucking your air fryer inside a cupboard might seem like a tidy solution, but it’s actually dangerous. Enclosed spaces trap heat and prevent airflow, which could cause overheating or even a fire. If you must store your air fryer in a cupboard, make sure to take it out before each use and place it in a well-ventilated area.

3.Underneath Kitchen Cabinets
Most air fryers release steam and heat upwards. If you use yours directly under kitchen cabinets, you risk damaging the wood, warping finishes, or even melting certain materials over time. To avoid this, always position your air fryer in an open space or on a heat-resistant mat that protects the surface above it.

4.Near the Sink
Water and electricity are a dangerous mix. Placing your air fryer too close to the sink increases the risk of electrical shock or short-circuiting if water splashes onto the appliance. Always keep your air fryer at least a few feet away from the sink and make sure your hands are dry when handling it.

5.On a Plastic or Flammable Surface
