Method of preparation:
Daily cleaning of garbage cans – Select your trash can regularly and wash with soap and water. Use a soft sponge or cloth to remove any organic debris that may attract worms.
Vinegar as a natural repellent – Mix 1:1 with water and vinegar and wipe the inside of the garbage can with it. Vinegar acts as a natural repellent against many insects.
Sodium bicarbonate paste – If you are dealing with more stubborn stains, apply a baking soda and water paste, then clean the inside of the trash can thoroughly. Soda will also help to neutralise unpleasant odours.
Using essential oils – Add a few drops of essential oil (e.g. eucalyptus or peppermint) to the water you will use to wash the garbage can. You can also place a small cotton ball soaked in oil inside the tank – this will help repel the insects.
Service and conservation advice:
Make sure your garbage bags are tightly closed – use bags that close well. This will effectively prevent the spread of worms and other insects in the tray.
Use containers with lids – A trash can with a lid is much more effective at preventing insects from entering.
