8 tips for taking better care of your teeth

  1. Brushing your teeth after breakfast can weaken the enamel

Many people believe that you should brush your teeth immediately after eating. However, if your meal contains acidic foods ( orange juice, coffee, whole-wheat bread, etc. ), the enamel temporarily becomes more fragile. Brushing too quickly can accelerate its wear.  It’s better to wait at least 30 minutes or brush your teeth before eating.

  1. Brushing too vigorously can damage your gums.

Using too much force when brushing can cause   gum  retraction , which exposes the roots of the teeth. Brushing too aggressively also wears down enamel and can make teeth more sensitive. Use a gentle brushing motion with a soft toothbrush and hold it with three fingers, like a pen, to limit pressure.

  1. Diet plays a key role in the health of your teeth

Your teeth need essential nutrients to stay strong. Here are some good eating habits:

  • Promote calcium  (cheese, yogurt, milk) to strengthen enamel.
  • Limit  sugary and acidic drinks that promote cavities and dental erosion.
  • Choose  foods rich in fiber like apples and carrots, which  help naturally clean teeth  and stimulate salivation.
  1. Toothpaste that is too abrasive can damage enamel
