Anticipating: the key to avoiding accidents
Frontal accidents often occur due to a computational error in the event of an overshoot or reduced visibility. However, the majority of them could be avoided with a single gold rule: anticipating.
Before you can, ask yourself these three questions:
- Do I have sufficient visibility? A turn, a hill top or adverse weather conditions should deter you from overtaking.
- Can I make my overtaking safely? If you are not sure, the answer is no.
- How will the pilot I over and do I over react? Some are accelerating suddenly, making the situation even more risky.
Essential advice: Before you go beyond, always identify an emergency route. Is there an exit on the side of the road in case of a problem?
