Imagine taking advantage of your garden peacefully, not knowing that some habits discreetly attract visitors with little choice. Rats, these opportunistic rodents, can be seduced by elements that we often neglect. What are these factors and how can they be avoided?
-
Inadequate management of food waste
Remains of food left in the open or in poorly closed garbage cans are a real bargain for rats. Their highly developed sense of smell quickly guides them to these easily accessible sources. A simple bag of poorly closed household waste may be enough to attract them. - -
Solution:
- Use hermetically sealed garbage cans: Make sure that your waste is placed in tightly closed containers to prevent rats from accessing them.
- Do not leave food outside: Including pet food, especially at night.
-
The presence of stagnant water
Like any living being, rats need water to survive. Stagnant water points such as puddles, uncleaned watering hobbyos or poorly protected ponds can easily attract them. A garden that offers both food and water quickly becomes a place to be favourable to their presence.
