Old-Fashioned Boston Brown Bread

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray cans with non-stick spray or use a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
2. Soak raisins in boiling water for 10 minutes.
3. Combine dry ingredients. Beat in egg.
4. Whisk baking soda into buttermilk, then stir in molasses. Fold into dry ingredients.
5. Pour batter into greased cans, filling 1/2 full. Tap cans to remove air bubbles.
6. Bake for 50 minutes, then remove top baking sheet and cook for another 10 minutes.
7. Let cool on a wire rack. Serve with butter or cream cheese.
