There are various types of scale insects, and almost all of them have a similar appearance. Below we list the most common types of scale insects and which types of plants they usually attack.
Mealy scale insect. Also called citrus mealybug, its scientific name is Planococcus citri and it is one of the most common. It is immediately recognizable due to its white color and its cotton-like consistency.
Mealy scale insect of the roots. Unlike the citrus mealybug, this variety attacks the roots of the plants.
Low scale insect of citrus fruits. It mainly attacks houseplants and fruit trees.
