Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Bake the Cake Layers
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix on medium speed until smooth and fully incorporated.
Add Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, which helps create a moist cake.
Bake: Divide the batter between the two prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool & Slice: Let cakes cool completely on a wire rack. Then, slice each layer horizontally into two thin layers, giving you four total.
Step 2: Prepare the Caramel Filling
Cream the Butter: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy and pale.
Add Sugar: Gradually beat in powdered sugar until smooth.
Incorporate Condensed Milk: Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Beat until the filling is smooth, thick, and creamy.
💡 Tip: Chill the filling for 15–20 minutes before assembly if it’s too soft.
