A well-functioning heart is the basis of our vitality. However, there are some discreet signs that can indicate that our heart is tired, without us realizing it right away. A famous American heart surgeon, Dr. Jeremy London, recently shared the three symptoms that alert him the most during his consultations.

You don’t have to be sick to monitor your heart. All you have to do is listen to your body, especially after the age of 40, if you have a sedentary lifestyle or a family history. Ready to learn more?

3 Silent Signs That Can Reveal Heart Failure

  1. Are you out of breath just walking?

If climbing a few steps or walking for a few minutes takes your breath away, it’s not necessarily due to a lack of fitness. According to Dr. London, shortness of breath can be one of the first signs of a heart that is struggling to pump blood efficiently. This may be related to a decrease in heart function or the beginning of insufficiency.

The right thingNote when this happens (in the morning, after a meal, with or without chest pain) and talk to your doctor. A simple examination can be enough to take stock.

  1. You have trouble breathing when lying down

It is a common symptom but still too little known. If you need several pillows to sleep on or if you experience respiratory discomfort while lying on your back, it may be related to poor blood circulation. In a weakened heart, fluid can build up in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe at rest.

The right reflexIf this happens to you often, mention it at your next consultation. It’s not “in your head,” but a signal that your heart might be struggling.

  1. Your legs swell at the end of the day
