Every summer, it’s the same old story. We turn on the fans at full blast, crank the air conditioning to the max, and yet the sweltering heat never completely disappears. But if you’re tired of skyrocketing electricity bills, there’s now a much easier-on-your-pocket solution: the radiant ceiling, otherwise known as the cooling ceiling.
Goodbye air conditioning and goodbye fans: here's the new trend for cooling your home and saving energy
Cooling ceiling, how does it work?
Concretely, the cooling ceiling consists of a network of tubes discreetly installed in the ceiling, through which iced water circulates. The principle is simple but effective: warm air is less dense and lighter than cold air, so it naturally rises upward. It is therefore attracted to cooler areas, comes into contact with the tubes, and cools immediately. The result: a significantly more pleasant indoor temperature, without the slightest noise or drafts.
The icing on the cake is that the walls themselves absorb less heat. In short, the entire room breathes better. While still relatively uncommon in France, this system is enjoying great success abroad, particularly in Scandinavian countries, Germany, and Switzerland, where it has already proven its worth in terms of thermal comfort and energy savings.
