Aphids and mealybugs can cause significant damage to your plants by sucking their sap. Instead of relying on chemicals, you can easily make an effective, natural pesticide yourself using baking soda. Here are the steps to effectively protect your plants:
️⃣ Base Mix – Mix 1 liter of water with a tablespoon of baking soda to create the base for your spray.
️⃣ Add Liquid Soap – Add a teaspoon of neutral liquid soap to help the solution adhere better to the plants and control pests.
️⃣ Mix Well – Stir the mixture gently until the baking soda is completely dissolved.
️⃣ Into a Spray Bottle – Pour the solution into a spray bottle for easier application.
️⃣ Spray Plants – Apply the solution to the affected areas, especially the undersides of the leaves, as this is where pests often hide.
️⃣ Repeat regularly – Spray every two days, preferably in the evening to avoid sunburn on the leaves.
️⃣ Combat more severe infections – For more severe infestations, mix 1 liter of water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. The oil breaks through the mealybugs’ protective shell.
